Guaranteed Minimum Pension equalisation (GMPe)

A High Court ruling in 2018 stated that all pension schemes with a GMP must equalise pension benefits for the unequal effects of GMPs for men and women between 17 May 1990 and 5 April 1997, when GMPs stopped building up. We’re legally obliged to ensure that you receive the pension you’re entitled to. This includes GMP. It’s the Trustee’s responsibility to ensure that GMPe is carried out.

We’ll be reviewing our GMP records and will make sure the pension benefits are equal for men and women, but it’s a long-term process.

Usually, benefits can only be increased, not decreased, which might mean a small boost to your pension. However, in some cases, GMP rectification adjustments could lead to a reduction in your pension.

Not all members will be affected and we’ll tell you directly if you are.
